(ThyBlackMan.com) Even though bigots and black feminists tried to bury the film and mainstream publications like The Wall Street Journal called the film a “flop“, but when I looked at how much the film had made at the box office: $9.5 million dollars. I see it as a very successful film because it made the money it was expected to make.

Intro: Here are several reasons why I chose not to watch the film.

1. Affiliation With Fox – I wish that NP had never turned down Byron Allen’s $20 million dollar offer to distribute the film because I am a firm believer that we have to do business with our own people so that we can’t rely on racist corporations like Fox to either give us opportunities or fund our own films. Much of the bigotry that’s on Fox now is pretty much on Fox News.

2. The Becky Syndrome – It really disgusts me personally when I see some of these well known black men in the mainstream American space like NP that have the mental illness of self-hate passbirthofanation-2016-2016 over beautiful chocolate sistas for washed up trashy Beckies and this is a huge mental illness that some black men in America have.

3. Most Mainstream Films That Are Supposedly Based On “True Stories” Are Not Correctly Portrayed – Most mainstream films have a fondness for putting such a huge overemphasis on sensationalism than actually portraying the film correctly with historically accurate facts which is why I don’t watch most of these supposedly “true story films“.

4. I’m Already Angry At What’s Happening To My People – Another reason why I chose not to watch this film is because I already knew that my anger would go up 10x given the fact that I’m already angry as hell at all the things they’ve done and are still doing to us: police brutality, mass incarceration, school-to-prison pipeline, etc.

5. Enough Of The Slave Narrative – To be very honest, I’m personally sick of us constantly being portayed as slaves in the mainstream media through “Roots” & “The Butler” where black women are portrayed as mammies for The Massa and his woman and black men are portrayed as weak ass pacifistic slaves to The Massa. And when you research deeper, you find out that our history started way long before slavery ever came about.

6. Racial Stereotypes Of Black People That Exist In Mainstream Hollywood – It’s no secret that the original 1915 film “The Birth Of A Nation” was the catalyst that pretty much created the racism that exist in Hollywood today because over the past 100 years, we’ve been portrayed in an extremely negative light as gangsters, thugs, criminals, rapists, killers, bitches, hoes, thots, bad bitches, niggas, pimps, players, welfare queens, drag queens, slaves, magical negroes, sidekicks for main Caucasoid characters, etc.

The Conclusion – I am a big fan of the rising Black Hollywood that makes, produces, and distributes our own films without going to the mainstream folks to fund and distribute our films.
