Kanye West What’s Going On.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Dear Kanye West,

Please allow me to say I have known pain, and hardship in my life. However, in don’t know the pain of having lost a mother…I said a prayer for you when your mom passed. To this day you still have my deepest sympathy.  Your music is profound, and rather artistic…I must admit your first three albums (The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation) are by far my favorites. I can appreciate your artistry even if there is a song or album I’m not too fond of.  With that being said… as a member of black community I can only wonder if you are okay? As a people we don’t always handle grief, depression nor mental illness correctly. I can only wonder if you are lashing out in your pain. I remember the first time I saw the video for Power… all that could come to mind was maybe he is mad at God because this imagery is rather disturbing. It was as if the groundbreaking reality of “Jesus Walks” had passed away. The music, and image became darker, sinister even…and emotional in a volatile manner. It’s as if your passion had taken a turn.

You seemed to have gone from standing up for the blatant 2016-KanyeWest-closeup-KanyeWestmistreatment of Hurricane Katrina victims in your scathing assessment of President G.W. Bush, to attacking Taylor Swift…and anyone that didn’t dig your clothing lines and spoke on it. Yet, you’d be the first one to admit that art, and fashion is subjective and personal.

You’ve come a long ways since  Dilated People’s “This Way”, “All Falls Down”, or “Heard ‘Em Say”…a long ways since “Power”, but your headlines indicate down spiral. No brother this is not judgement it’s, but a sincere concern.  Because this is a concern I would like to simply raise a question for consideration versus making broad statements.  When are in the thick of things we can’t always see the large picture or to the what degree we are in pain. Mr West I truly believe like many of us that have experienced hurt and great loss you are navigating  this thing called life as best as you can and that is to be respected.

At this stage in life you’re not just a son, producer nor just a famed recording artist…you are also a husband and a father to two wonderful little people.  Being a parent is a wonderful gift and often gives us quite a bit to work and live for. However marriage nor parenthood tends to completely void the pain or the loss that we face in this life. With that being said these are just some things I thought one may want to consider that honestly I the food for thought came from your word.

It seems as though some of your lyrics were a place of reference should you ever lose your way.

“It seems we living the American dream
But the people highest up got the lowest self esteem
The prettiest people do the ugliest things
For the road to riches and diamond rings
We shine because they hate us, floss cause they degrade us
We trying to buy back our 40 acres
And for that paper, look how low we a’stoop
Even if you in a Benz, you still a nigga in a coop/coupe”

“They say people in your life are seasons
And anything that happen is for a reason
And niggas guns a clappin’ and keep to squeezin’
And Gran’ keep prayin’ and keep believin’
And Jesus, one day that ya see him
Till they walk in his footsteps and try to be him
The devil is alive I feel him breathin’
Claimin’ money is the key so keep on dreamin’
And put those lottery tickets just to tease us
My aunt Pam can’t put those cigarettes down
Now my ‘lil cousin smokin’ those cigarettes now
His job trying to claim that he too niggar-ish now
Is it ’cause his skin blacker than licorice now?
I can’t figure it out, I’m stickin’ around”

“I had a dream I could buy my way to heaven
When I awoke I spent that on a necklace
I told God I’d be back in a second
Man, it’s so hard not to act reckless
To whom much is given, much is tested
Get arrested, guess until he get the message
I feel the pressure, under more scrutiny”

The above mentioned lyric are three different examples from three different songs where by the misunderstanding of “fame” leads to detrimental problems. You most certainly have a right to your feelings and beliefs as do we all. However, you seemed to have written lyrics that could speak to you directly right now. Rants, dragging kids into beef, award show antics, and what appears to be alienation are all cause for concern as a community, and for those that are hardcore fans.  It’s hard to know who’s real, and who has our best interest at heart. I wouldn’t claim to know the answers to life’s challenges where you are concerned nor do I, out of respect, seek to advise you.

With that being said my one question is: If the question What’s Going On Kanye is post to present day you by the College Dropout/Late Registration/Graduation Kanye would you tell him the truth, and would you be willing to hear his advice?
