(ThyBlackMan.com) Just as the body builds up toxins from the food we consume as humans, so do our minds become adversely affected from mental toxins and negativity. As a result, we develop mental cues that we use on a daily basis. Mental cues are programmed ways of thinking as we attempt to adjust to the demands of our environment. You basically live your life according to negative or positive mental cues. Popular examples of mental cues include “I’m broke” or “I can’t”. We accumulate these cues throughout our lifetime, beginning in childhood. Cleansing the mind is just as important as cleansing the body. It takes time and effort but the rewards are excellent! Here is a five-step mental detoxification protocol you can use to achieve a feeling of freedom and wellness for your life. Try it for seven days.

Step#1

Take a Break from Local Evening News

Most local evening news begins around 4pm and don’t end until 6pm. They then return for another late evening slate at 9 or 10pm. Regardless of the time, evening news tends to be filled with garbage.Black man using laptop in coffee shop Murder, mayhem and misery seem to capture the headlines in order to grab the most viewers. This is damaging to your subconscious because of its close proximity to bedtime. Declare a break! Turn off the news and focus on something positive instead. Your brain will thank you for it!

Step#2

Read a Verse from Holy Scripture

Step two of the mental detox is intended to break the chain of negativity entering the sub-conscious mind. Reading from Holy Scripture instills a sense of positive vibration into your psyche. Personally, I read a Psalm and Proverb each day when I awake. Do what’s comfortable for you, whatever your religious bent. Not only do you begin the day on a positive note with this method, you feel a sense of connectedness as you move throughout your waking hours.

Step#3

Write an Affirmation

An affirmation is a short statement of who you believe yourself to be; it is a method of positive thinking that promotes self-empowerment. It promotes the truth of who you are. For example: I am powerful. I am beautiful. Write an affirmation and put it where you can view it several times a day, perhaps on your bathroom mirror.

Step#4

Repeat the Affirmation Throughout Your Day

Take the affirmation you wrote and repeat it throughout your day, either audibly or inaudibly. Try to repeat it as many times as possible – there is never a point where you recite too many times! I estimate that I have repeated a version of my personal affirmation several hundred times in one day.

Step#5

Drink Three Liters of Water Each Day

Begin with three liters. Drink more if you can. Drinking water will improve your mental alertness and alacrity. It will also lubricate your organs and joints, allowing your body to work less harder at keeping your functioning. This allows your brain to function at optimal levels and you retain a sense of clarity.

Cleansing the mind is just the same as cleansing the body. It takes time and effort but the rewards are excellent!
