Chicago Theological Seminary addresses racism in new online video launching on February 2, 2016.

What if you could walk in someone else’s shoes? What if you could actually experience the racism that others do on a daily basis? You would probably be more understanding of the notion of White Privilege.

That is the thought behind the new web video created by Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS) called “White Privilege Glasses.” In it, the main character, Mike, gets a pair of glasses that open his eyes to subtle, engrained racism in everyday life.

CTS’s President, Rev. Alice Hunt explains, ““Racism is the 12345-cts_logo-2016pre-eminent social justice issue of our time. The purpose of this spot is to challenge people to see the oppressive ubiquity of racism in our world….and inspire dialogue.”

“At CTS, we believe the racial divide will only change when the collective “we” not only understand the concepts of privilege; but together begin to identify and correct the systems that advantage one group over the other,” said Rhonda Brown, Vice President for Advancement. “We intend for White Privilege Glasses to spark discussions about a very serious issue,” said Brown. “White Privilege Glasses is not just a video – it’s a movement.”

The plan is to launch the video online and support it with additional marketing techniques. CTS will make available discussion guides and other materials for schools, churches and organizations wishing to have their own discussions on racial privilege.

“The CTS brand is more than just theology classes,“ adds Brown. “It is about becoming an actual voice in the national dialogue and championing important social justice issues.”

Visit the official White Privilege Glasses website, where you can watch the video, receive press materials and download discussion guides.
