(ThyBlackMan.com) Did you know that the skin is the largest organ in the human body? Human skin is amazing: it protects us from infection, regulates our body temperature, and allows us to feel things. Healthy skin is a tough physical barrier against the world, but unhealthy skin causes an awful lot of problems and our skin is just as susceptible to disease as any other organ in the human body.

Thankfully the below conditions are pretty rare and most people are unlikely to be afflicted. Other skin conditions such as angular cheilitis, eczema, herpes simplex and acne are much more common and easy to treat. For more information about angular cheilitis, visit the following resource: https://epicraze.com/angular-cheilitis-treatment-and-causes/. And if you spot a nasty lesion, pustule or blister on your skin, have it checked out by your dermatologist to make sure it isn’t anything too serious.

Human Werewolf Syndrome

Body hair on men is considered normal, but if a woman or child started sprouting copious amounts of thick hair, they would attract a lot of attention. For some people, this is the unfortunate reality of their life. People with Human Werewolf Syndrome are born with extra genes on the X chromosome, which causes excessive hair to grow all over their face and body. It is a very rare disorder and there have only been a few hundred cases reported worldwide. There is no cure for the disorder, and although laser hair removal treatments can offer a temporary fix, the hair always grows back.

Porphyria

Porphyria is a genetic disorder. People with porphyria are so sensitive to sunlight that any exposure causes painful blisters. Sufferers are also sensitive to garlic and if garlic is ingested, it can cause agonising abdominal pain and receding gums. Not surprisingly, people exhibiting the symptoms of porphyria were once thought to be vampires. Porphyria is not curable, but the disorder can be managed with blood transfusions.

Tree Bark Skin Disorder

One or two warts in a prominent position can cause distress, so imagine how awful it would be if your body were covered in warts from head to foot! Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis, otherwise known as tree bark skin disorder, is characterised by eruptions of wart-like lesions that resemble bark on a tree. When the HPV virus infects people with Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis, they develop the lesions. Unfortunately there is no known cure.

Necrotizing Fasciitis

Necrotizing Fasciitis is a particularly nasty skin condition that can be fatal in 30-40% of cases. Scratches, cuts and other minor wounds are not usually anything to get worked up about and some antiseptic cream and a plaster will normally take care of it. If you are afflicted with necrotizing fasciitis, however, things will get very nasty very quickly. This bacteria releases toxins that destroy flesh and unless the affected tissue is removed, the infection spreads rapidly. The only treatment is massive doses of antibiotics followed by amputation of the infected limb – and even then there is no guarantee of a cure.
