(ThyBlackMan.com) Right now, you are probably putting together your checklist for your family’s summer vacation. This is the time of year when families get away from everyone they know, stay in a hotel, and do all the things they would never do at home. By the time you read this, the season for festival will be just about over. However, that does not mean that the travel season has come to an end. It hasn’t. It just changes to a very different kind. You have to start getting your house ready for it now. Here’s why:

Sleepover Season Is Right Around the Corner

Back to school also means back to all the social realities associated with school. One of those social realities is that your kids will make new friends, and get reacquainted with old friends. They will want to spend time together, as friends do. In other words, it’s sleepover season.

Your house has got to get ready for the responsibility of sheltering other people’s children. Things you might let slide with your own children have to be tightened up when other people’s children are involved. Are you going to be present every moment of the time when your kids have friends over? Of course not. No one is.

It might be time to upgrade your ability to keep up with what is going on at home. Fortunately, there are home monitoring devices that allow you to keep up with what is going on inside your house, as well as outside. While we’re on the subject of monitoring, you might want to instal new batteries in all your smoke alarms. If your smoke alarms are of an older vintage, you may want to upgrade them to something a bit more capable of detecting more dangers than just a smoky fire.

Home Security

As the holiday season approaches, you will be traveling over the river and through the woods to grandmothers house. That is going to leave your house a tempting target for guests of the uninvited variety. This risk is doubled if you live in a nicer neighborhood.

If you have not yet upgraded to some type of home security system, now is the time. Security system companies offer services in a variety of different areas such as Cape Coral ADT security, which start as low as $9 a week, keeping your personal finances happy while giving you peace of mind for your safety.

There was a time when having a monitored system installed practically required a remodel. Such systems were out of reach of apartment dwellers. But newer, wireless systems make home security a smart summer upgrade for everyone, regardless of where you happen to live.

Fall Colors and Basic Repairs

Let’s face it: Your parents are coming over. And you don’t want them to see the same old chipping paint from last year. Now is the time to lay out your best table, put your best foot forward, and show your father-in-law that you really can take good care of his little girl. Now is the time to hit Home Depot for a new set of Fall Colors before things get too hectic with school

Just remember, like most other home improvement projects, painting is really hard. If you are not willing to do all the little, nit-picky details that make a paint job look polished, call a professional. An amateurish paint job is probably worse than leaving things the way they were. There is no doubt that repairs are challenging. Preparing your house for guests cannot be accomplished if you still have to fix your bathroom and change the plumbing or add bracing behind your old vanity. This may require that you complete these areas, at the very least. You may also consider checking about pedestal sinks that can conceal the plumbing behind the base. Adding a pedestal sink can increase the visual and physical space of a small bathroom by releasing the space normally occupied by a vanity cabinet. This design is popular with many smaller areas and provides a tremendous minimalist design appeal. Doing so will help you feel comfortable knowing that your home is ready to welcome guests.

None of these home improvements are terribly expensive. And they can make your life materially better. Fix the small things before they become expensive things. Secure your home. and add a few cameras for the inside. That way, whether you are the traveler or the destination for other travelers, you will be ready for just about anything.
