(ThyBlackMan.com) The MBA (Masters in Business Administration) is the single most sought-after degree in the United States. Why? Because employers are demanding more from their workforces, so if you want to advance yourself in business you’ll need to prove your skills and knowledge. An MBA is proof of your expertise, and according to Howard E. Horton, the president of the New England College of Business and Finance, by increasing your expertise you may net yourself a new job or promotion.

The number one benefit of an MBA is that it can advance your career. Once graduated, you will have in-depth business knowledge your colleagues do not have (unless they have an MBA too). The MBA can set you apart from the competition, and it will stand out on your resume.

If you’re already in your career, and hoping for a promotion, the MBA you’ve earned can help you net that promotion. Next to undereducated candidates, you will always stand out; therefore, you’re almost a shoe in for whatever is upcoming in your career.

Benefits of an MBA:

  • Increased knowledge
  • Improved ability to handle productivity issues
  • Improved job performance

It’s Easier than Ever to Get an MBA

If the thought of returning to college turns your stomach, consider that you can get your MBA online. Some colleges offer accelerated programs for learning, such as the accelerated degree programs at Gwynedd Mercy. You’ll earn your MBA faster, and you won’t have to quit your day job to attend.

There’s a few things to consider before applying at an online school.

Not all online schools are accredited, but for your MBA to be taken seriously you must attend an accredited school. Moreover, you must choose a program that fits your schedule. Some programs allow you to work at your own pace; others require that you strictly attend to

online coursework at specific times.

Tips for Earning Your MBA

You will have to apply to attend MBA classes, and your application may require that you write an application essay. Forbes recommends that you highlight your strengths, and reach out for recommendations. “You will want to connect with possible recommenders well in advance of the application deadlines in order to reinforce these relationships and ensure that these individuals know you well so that they may provide the strongest possible recommendation.”

Make sure any gaps in your resume are addressed, and that you’re very detailed about your education history. If you are diligent, and take the steps necessary to submit a high-quality application, you shouldn’t have much issue securing a spot in an accelerated MBA program.

    Hello Mr. Harris.

I would like to say ‘Thank You” for writing this article. As a 47 year old African American male who has two degrees, MBA and a BS in Business and Management, I can attest that having these degrees has been very beneficial in my career in Business. I have worked in companies where most of the employees were not African American, nor were most of the customers, and these degrees along with an overall self commitment to be better than average, allowed me to excel in management positions throughout my career despite adversities.
Education is extremely important and it is something no one can take from you. It does not necessarily have to be in business, though I am biased, if you excel in business, you can do most anything.
Thanks, to my parents (both with college degrees), for pushing me to be the best individual I could be, and understanding the importance of being educated about the world, and life in general.
