America Look In The Mirror.

(ThyBlackMan.com) Romper stomper stomper boo, tell me tell me tell me do. Magic mirror tell me today. About this country what should I say? Wow, I just realized old Mr. Rogers was casting spells using a mirror. But anyway, regarding America. You know the Bible says we should get the mote out of our own eyes before trying to tend to everyone else’s. It also states that charity begins at home America. But somehow many of our citizens (especially Republicans) want to live in an illusion, never facing the diabolical treachery this country has done. Does America have it’s good points or even great points? You bet it does, and many of them. But a balanced look at America requires all of us to look at BOTH sides of the coin and the truth in history does not lie.

I find it rather ironic that illegal immigration has become such a big issue, especially when many would say the founding fathers of this country were illegal immigrants who discovered a land that had already been discovered. They possessed a land that was already owned. Then they wiped out as many Indians as they could and captured slaves to make our forefathers build this nation. Somehow “all men are created equal” was forgotten and African-Americans were seen as 2/3 of a man. Families were divided, our women were raped, our men were used as breeders, killed and worse. You do know California was Hispanic, don’t you? The white-washed version of Christianity with white Jesus was shoved down our throats, segregation was the rule just less than a hundred years ago and racism is still alive and well today as we see through police brutality.

We are supposed to be “good niggers” and ignore the indigenous Moors, segregation, racism, discrimination, stolen inventions, Mithraism and the stolen, renamed religions of Egypt. And the sad part of it all is that many of us go right on ignoring the truth just to fit in on the new plantation. Many African-Americans praise Martin Luther King Jr. for what he did because he was a great man who did great things. But others praise him because they needed a savior America-2015and would never step up or stand up for themselves to do anything. Which category do you fit into?

Are we just supposed to forget all these things because we have a President who looks like us, the government gives out food stamps, welfare and WIC and some of us THINK we have arrived because we drive nice cars and have nice houses? NO! It’s not that simple. I do not support terrorism and I definitely do not support the taking of innocent life, ever. Actually I do not even support violence. But our country needs to ask the question “why do other nations, ethnic groups and people hate us so much“? America has military bases in over 100 countries around the world and those bases represent sovereign United States territory. Then we have embassies almost everywhere else. America is everywhere. Leaders of other countries are on the payroll one minute and enemies of the bald eagle the next.

When Jeremiah Wright made his statements, I heard the news media tear him apart, especially FOX News. But I never hear the news media ask if such comments are historically accurate. And I never hear the commentators dispute the validity of such comments. It appears that America has a weak stomach for hearing what it has done. But how does a nation get better if it walks in denial and refuses to look in the mirror? It seems our country presupposes that we know what’s best for every other country. America says who should have nuclear weapons and who should not, how women in other countries should dress, who should have embargos levied against them and who should have democracy as the foundation of their country. If someone even tried to do that to America, our government would tell them to “go to Hell” then send them there with a free trip courtesy of a drone or missile.

According to Paralyzed Veterans For America, over 50,000 of our military men and women returned from Iraq and Afghanistan injured, deformed or worse. According to the American Legion, 22 veterans commit suicide every day. You gotta be kidding. These number have to be wrong but I fear they are not. And where did America find the great weapons of mass destruction threat Saddam Hussein? Hiding in a hole. He was pulled out, captured, handed to the Iraqi government put in place by the United States and executed. So you gotta ask yourself, was he a threat at all?

Do not get me wrong, there are many great things about America, like freedom of speech (sort of), like opportunity to start a business, to earn decent wages, to vote, to run for local, state or federal office, religious freedoms, civil rights (hmmm), constitutional rights, decent housing, lights, internet, reasonable prices, plentiful natural resources and the list goes on. But every coin has two sides and we need to be honest about the other side of the coin. America possesses more weapons of mass destruction than almost any country in the world except maybe Russia and China – and this country is not afraid to use them. America is feared as much as it is respected. Then there are the warmongers who want to change President Obama into a President Bush so he will bully other countries and go start wars. That is an imperialist, supremacist, expansionistic mindset and thank God President Obama has not fallen for it. He keeps reaching out to almost everyone and attempting to build bridges. God for you Mr. President, good for you!

It is getting very dangerous in this country for those who assert their First Amendment rights. If you don’t agree with homosexuality, you are considered the one who is wrong and you are expected to go along with it quietly. If you do not agree with something our government is doing, you may find yourself under observation. If you film an incident of police brutality, you may be tasered or arrest in some parts of the country. If you say “have a blessed day” at work, you may be told to stop saying that. If you protest in the wrong area, you may be hurt, arrest or worse. Yes our freedoms are disappearing quietly and faster than you think. ISN’T AMERICA GREAT?

In Atlanta they closed down the housing projects, relocated many of the residents to another county then cut out the bus system in that county. In Ferguson, 86% of traffic stops were against African Americans, even though we are not that much of the population. In Los Angeles just recently 5 officers went after a homeless man and he was killed. The homeless are not even treated like human beings and that has to stop. In New York, Mr. former mayor Giuliani, it has been shown that the police routinely implement corrupt and illegal practices. Giuliani should maybe spend more time criticizing the city he ran than the President of the United States.

The literacy level in the United States is shocking. Our country has 16% or so of the world’s population yet more people incarcerated than any other country. Republicans wanted the President to keep the Gitmo terrorist prison open in Cuba even though many of the prisoners had neither been tried nor convicted of anything. Wow what a great country we are. You can decide for yourself but notice not once did I call America evil or bad. The history of this country, if we are honest enough to look at both sides of the coin, will provide every name or label you need. As a writer, I try to stay balanced – but this was a hard one.
