(ThyBlackMan.com) This morning as I skimmed through the various articles and blogs about last night’s airing of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta Season 3, Part 2 of the Reunion Show”, the commonality among all that I read,  was that, finally! “The drama is here!” “Here comes the turn up!” “The fight was revealed”. “We are now privy to the melee”. However,  I think many of us have failed to see the bigger picture.

While everyone that participates in this show is grown, does so on their own accord and should be held accountable for the tainted image of Black Women and Black Men they put out to the world, one key person often goes unnoticed. The Ring Master, or more befittingly, the Pimp, aka the producer, Mona Scott-Young.

I am amazed by all the backlash I get for holding women accountable for our actions and the consequences that follow, but Mona Scott-Young seems to get a pass. I am accused of exploiting  Black Women when I showcase examples of our behavior as a means to get us to do better, but my life is threatened. Mona Scott-Young exploits Black Women and what do you do? You gather around the television to join in the exploitation of Black Women, and by doing so you ENHANCE her life, by enhancing her pockets.

Mona Scott-Young is a cold pimp and she has a nice stash of whores that work for her, she pays them well and she gets paid even more to pimplhh-atl-joseline-ripped-mag them. Instead of posting and writing about how good the fight was, and that we finally got to see something “juicy”, Black Women in America AND abroad should be embarrassed right now.

Mona Scott-Young has to shoulder a lot of the responsibility for what took place during the reunion, and really for the entire show.  She sets the stage, she is the puppet master, the mad scientist and Joseline Hernandez has become her Frankenstein. Joseline has been very open about her troubled past, and how she initially started stripping to help her family at 15 years of age and there is also a history of drug use in her family, now, fast forward to present day.

She’s left the bright lights of the strip club and has transitioned to the bright lights of the camera, but was there any help offered to heal her past issues? She just went from one pimp to another, her cut is just a little larger this time around. I am not excusing Joseline for any of her decisions, but women know how to manipulate other women. Women know how to woo and sweet talk women, and not in sexual manner. Women have a special way of relating to one another, we know how to soothe and console and pretend to be in your corner. Oh you thought that game was just for men? Please! Women know how to run a smooth game on women, and can easily  turn another woman out.  So many of women are looking at the male pimp, you let the female pimp slither on by you.

Mona Scott-Young manipulates the inner demons that lie within these women. She is a true misogynist. There is no way she can sincerely love Black Women and exploit them for profit the way that she does. When Joseline had an abortion, did she offer her any counseling? When Mimi dropped her sex tape, did she offer Mimi any counseling? Was she concerned about how this would impact Mimi’s daughter, or was her only concern about how this would impact her RATINGS?

Has she had a life coach come on the show and try to change the footsteps of the women towards a more positive direction? Has she done ANYTHING to enlighten Black Women about their self-worth, self-esteem or self love? No, she has created an international stage to allow Black Women to portray ourselves as savage, promiscuous, eye rolling, finger pointing, neck rolling, unable to articulate a sentence without a curse word, competitive, catty, desperate, jump offs, baby mama’s and wives. Any attempt to the better the women she exploits would put a dent in her pockets, and she’s not having that.

I keep telling you all, the Black Woman is EVERYONE’S PAYDAY/ CASH COW. You want to get rich quickly? Come up with a show that will degrade Black Women, in every way imaginable, and not only will the project get the green light, you will have several Black Women COMPETING to be the Baddest Bitch, the Filthiest Whore,  The Bitter Baby Mama, and countless other roles that portray Black Women in a negative light.

Black Women I know you want to blame a man for this right?  Specifically a BLACK MAN right? I mean the Black Man is our “go to guy” when we want to deflect. You want to blame the men on the show don’t you? Maybe Stevie or Nikko, you might even say there is a “man” behind Mona, and while I will admit that there are bigger forces behind her, whose FACE do you see? Whose name do you see that will be the most recognized when the credits roll? Whose  pimp hand is strong? She has branched out from NY to Atlanta, to Hollywood. She really has “hoes in different area codes”. And all of them want to be her Bottom Bitch.

I have to believe this is her motto, after all she IS a pimp..””Pimpin’ ain’t easy… so keep your Ho’s sleazy and you know they’ll keep your fingers greasy.”

I mean, I’d ask Mona Scott-Young to throw in her pimp card, but she has too many Black Women willing to work the stroll. The next time there is a conversation about misogyny in Hip Hop, the way women are portrayed in the media, and how we are viewed, take a look to see who’s REALLY behind the lenses.

Women never really want to have honest conversations, because that would force us to take most of the responsibility. We talk about the men ON the show, but we are quiet about the woman BEHIND it. Well, most of us are, I am NOT. I am not afraid to call a spade a spade…and a pimp a pimp. The sad reality is, Black Women make pimping look EASY and FUN.

i’m confused, this is reality tv. i’m not understanding how you are discrediting this lady like this. before LHHATL there was ny. so these cast members knew what they were signing up for. you have shows like MAURY, SPRINGER,WILKOS depicting women in a bad fashion, but you are only speaking on one show. confused. everybody on this show is grown, can they take accountability for there own action. if Mona wasn’t producing it some other producer would be. sad but this is our society. to stop it would be to stop watching it, but come on you no like me we will not

Sharz I guess I can sell you the Brooklyn bridge too.

Wow, this I strongly agree, I’m a black woman and this piece just opened my eyes, because I’m to blame as well, I record this show at home and can’t wait go get home to watch it and I love it. So now I need to look closely at myself for my actions. I will get counseling for why I want to watch this kind of violence, thank you for this article, and I hope other black women and women alike will know that we are worth so very much more than this crap we watch on television.

Well said!!!!!! It is a vicious circle of degradation. We ( society) consume it voraciously even if only to state the obvious and shake our finger at how horrible it is. We still watch. Green is the only color that matters. Mona Scott Young is no different than the blacks who owned slaves during the slave trade. It was the way to make wealth and if you can’t beat them join them. Iyku are either the pimp or the ho. If we stop buying the product they will most definitely stop selling. The bus boycotts worked because we hit the pockets. Humanity cannot reason; cannot agree unless there is an impetus to do so. Mimi is a prime example of how money mattered more than her dignity. Being the good girl Stevie dumped for the stripper/prostitute didn’t pay as much as actually being the stripper./prostitute. How do I know? …. I was watching …. When we stop watching they will turn it off. But we won’t stop so they will keep dishing out poop and telling us it is sunshine.

I agree with what you wrote. However the thing to remember is the women and their behavior on this show is not reflective of all black women. Sure it perpetuates what society and some black men already think about black women but it’s deeper than that. It goes back to slavery when black women were disregarded as nothing nobody trash you name it and they thought it. Which is still the mindset of society. You could be the most successful black woman in the world and you will still get looked at this way. Whose to say counseling wasn’t offered behind close doors but they refused it. They did have Dr Jeff gardere on the show with Mimi Stevie and Joseline. It’s up to the people to want the help. Lastly there is also another possibility. Maybe this is what these women simply want. It may not be for you or anyone else but it’s what they chose to do with their life. Some people go to school others get an inheritance and stay at home. Love your commentary.

First of all we need to agree that the show is not a feel good do good themed flavored show. All of the people that appear on it seem to be quite self-centered and seeking 15 minutes of fame. If they really wanted help, there would be counselors on the show and even some demon casting individuals that would perform on site exorcisms in the name of Jesus’. However, it is what it is. Unorganized chaos involving our people who are more than willing to reveal things that should have been kept behind closed doors. As far as pimping is concerned, this practice has been going on for quite awhile and there is no end in sight as long as opportunity presents itself. There are no true friendships or relationships on the show as even Scrappy and his mother are dysfunctional and serve as an example of how a family can be negatively portrayed. Meanwhile we see the Jerry Springer aspect of the show as the cast can not even sit down and do an informal review of their performances without resorting to violence and profanity. I am guilty of watching this crap as well due to the lack of qualitative tv programming and no black executive control. All I can say is that it is rather disappointing for the role model aspect and for the next generation of our children who will grow up thinking that being dysfunctional and highly disrespectful to one another is normal among us humans. Pimping is now being shown from the pulpit to the streets and as long as we watch without saying anything, it will continue. Peace out, Papacool.

I so agree with your opinion. I watch the show and am astounded at the way these people especially the women are portrayed. I do also agree that if this is really the “true” life and behavior of these women, then the show would be much better if there were some attempt to help these women who obviously need counsel and direction. If these women “truly” live like this, then they really need help.

  8. Christina says:

Two issues arise with your thoughts.
    1. It’s a reality show. It is not mona’s job to be providing counselling on the show.
How would that ensure authenticity? Reality shows are just about the lives of the characters. So why would Mona be required to intervene in anyway.

    2. Clearly even with all your distaste for the show. You watch it yourself ! And I assume from that long list of all the flaws you’ve seen on the show you’ve been watching it from season 1. Probably the New York version too..am I right? Because we all do.
So why do you do that if you are so offended by the scenes, the characters, the story lines.
You watch it yourself and then come on social sites and say how appalled and offended you are.. there’s a slight disconnect between your thoughts and those actions..

Besides those two issues, I do agree with the disgusting image the characters display of black people. It’s stupid. Most people, be they black or any other colour, don’t behave like that anyway. You must however take the programme in therror context it’s set in. They are a warped super rich community with nothing better to do than sleep around and curse their assess off. It’s the life they’ve chosen. And nobody has to live with that except them.

  9. Cindy says:

You are on point about absolutely everything you said. Please, please, please publish this on Love and Hip Hop’s website and Monami Entertainment website which is Mona’s website. If only more people believed what you believed and we were able to stop these type of shows from being promoted life would be so much better.

  10. Leo says:

I’m not shocked at all because Mona Scott-Young and the rest of the casts doesn’t care. What disturbed me more were the number of white production staff who also benefit financially from this.
