She grew up in Rhode Island where she lived in poverty since her father, Dan Davies was a humble horse groomer and her mother, Mary Alice worked at factory and also doubled up as a maid. Despite her humble background, Davies managed to develop a keen interest in the movies from a very tender age. Her ambitions saw her earn a degree in Theater in 1988 and she proceeded to join the prestigious Julliard School of Performing Arts in New York.

Viola Davis has also won several honors within the film industry. Some of the honors include the Academy Award Nominations, the Screen Actors’ Guilds Awards, BAFTA Award Nomination and even the Golden Globe Award nominations. The Early Life of Viola Davis

Though she was born in her grandmother’s plantation in South Carolina, she and her family moved to Rhode Island just a few months after she was born. Her childhood was not a very comfortable one as her family did not own much and they literally lived in abject poverty. But even poverty could not stop her love for stage acting when she joined Central Falls High School.

The discovery of her talent was by Bernard Masterson. After noticing her talent, Masterson gave Viola Davis a scholarship to join and study theater in West Warwick College in Rhode Island. After completing this college, she later joined Julliard School where she also studied for four years.

Success in Career

Viola Davis has had a streak of success in her entire career. The most notable one includes the Drama Desk Award and the Tony Awards. She received these two prestigious awards for the role she played in King Hedley. In the film, she acted as Tonya who was a lady in her mid thirties and she was disgusted with the fact that abortion was not allowed and she fought fearlessly against this prohibition. Her second Drama Desk Award was due to her role in Intimate Apparel in 2004.

Other films that have been graced by Viola Davis include Traffic, Out of Sight, Syriana, Ocean’s Eleven, Kate and Leopold and Antwone Fisher. Viola has also graced a number of television shows such as Century City, Law and Order, Traveler, and.

Viola has received recognition from a number of publications and magazines all over the world. For instance, Time Magazine listed her as one of the most influential entertainment personalities in the world while the Glamour Magazine gave her an award as the Film Actress of the Year Award in 2012. Currently, Viola Davis in talks with different producers for possible roles in a number of films and television series that are yet to be released.

Personal Life

The success that Viola Davis has received in her career seems to follow her even in her personal life. She is married to an actor husband, Julius Tennon and they are living together with their adopted child, Genesis in Los Angeles. She is also a loving step mother to two sons that Tennon got from his past marriage.
