(ThyBlackMan.com) If Grammy-winning singer Beyonce was hoping to get lots of attention with her newly released buzz single, “Bow Down/I Been On”—well—mission accomplished. Only thing is, it’s likely not the kind of buzz Mrs. Jay-Z Carter was hoping to hear.
Plenty of people are turned off by the song’s disrespectfulness and its excessive use of profanity.
The lyrics to the uncharacteristic tune that debase the wife, mother and celebrity that Michelle Obama calls a “role model,” blasts her pop and R&B contemporaries, telling them to show deference and reverence to her self-made throne.
“I know when you were little girls/You dreamt of being in my world/Don’t forget it, don’t forget it/ Respect that/Bow down, b**ches,” sings an angry and insecure-sounding Beyoncé.
Among those who find the Houston native’s track repugnant, is EEW Magazine’s President & CEO, Dianna Hobbs.
“Please do NOT email me any more links to Beyonce s new single ‘Bow Down,’ wrote the award-winning urban media specialist in a Facebook post Sunday.
Hobbs continued, “It is profane, vulgar and I’m not amused. Here’s my scriptural response: Matthew 23:12. Thank you.”
The scripture she referenced says this: “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
In the song, it seems as if the singer whose career spans 13 years and counting, feels like certain individuals yet fail to recognize the authority of her “Highness”—something the rich and famous artist finds hard to accept.
To solve the problem that stands in the way of her being the #1 girl who runs the world, she tells her royal subjects to assume the worshipful position, and bow down to her Pepsi-sponsored throne.
In December 2012, Beyonce inked a $50 million deal with Pepsi. The agreement includes traditional promotional appearances, a new commercial, as well as the company’s guaranteed investment in a number of her creative projects.
With the extra revenue from the soda company to contribute to her multi-million dollar fortune, some are left wondering why the 31-year-old sounds so desperate for praise and approval at the height of her career.
“I took some time to live my life,” she sings, “But don’t think I’m just his little wife/Don’t get it twisted, get it twisted/This my sh**/ Bow down b**ches.”
While many members of Beyonce’s most loyal fan base celebrate the new musical offering, there are some who are clearly disappointed in Blue Ivy’s mother.
“I have so much to say but can’t even put them into words. I’m a fan of hers and I’m also a Christian,” said a woman named Karema Mack-Rogers in response to Hobbs’ Facebook post about the song.
“I am so much a fan that I purchased tickets to her upcoming concert. I WAS excited to go and now I just feel like I was hit by a ton of bricks and I’m Nauseated. I can’t believe I just spent over $200 to see her sing BOW DOWN B******!”
A respondent named Jennifer Gibby said, “Oh Lord!!! it was on my time line and I made the big mistake of clicking the link, two seconds was more than enough, I was TOTALLY EMBARRASSED AND ANGERED!!!! So so sad!”
Another poster named Deanna wrote, “Smh……..that’s all I can say…….I don’t know the song but I heard about it. I love being woman of God….I can’t see how some Christians can subject themselves to this garbage!…..just my opinion…”
“Bow Down,” unfortunately reveals that Beyonce is not above pulling others down to secure her pop throne.
For Christians, though, there is only one worthy of our worship and His name does not begin with the letter B.
