(ThyBlackMan.com) It seems that Pat Robertson is at it again. In light of the devastating tornadoes that have touched down in the Midwest and Southern states he has made very disheartening comments regarding tornado victims during an episode of the 700 Club.

Pat Robertson is a televangelist and the host and founder of The 700 Club shown on the Christian Broadcast Network (CBN).  The program is aired in 138 countries and it reaches 360 million people on a yearly basis. To many he is a religious icon within the Christian community.

As a leader Robertson gives advice on a number of issues. Pat Robertson has been known to voice his opinions regardless of what others may think and whom he may upset.  So it appears that he has opened up and inserted his foot once again.

During an episode of The 700 Club, televangelist Pat Robertson questioned why people would knowingly live in tornado-prone areas and faulted the victims of the recent storms for not praying harder and choosing to live in an area prone to tornadoes. “Why did you build houses where tornadoes were apt to happen?” he asked. “If enough people were praying, God would intervene. You could pray, Jesus stilled the storm, you could still storms.”

Really Pat? Really now! We all know the devastation caused by natural catastrophes and we all know that some things are beyond our control. I thought to myself that he cannot be serious. But of course he is because this is not the first time that he has made such backward comments.

Amplify-In 2010 Pat Robertson made a statement saying that the people of Haiti were cursed because they made a deal with the devil. “Something happened a long time ago in Haiti … they were under the heel of the French, uh, you know, Napoleon the third and whatever … and they got together and swore a pact to the devil, they said, we will serve you, if you get us free from the Prince. True story.”  In the same breath he also said they were helping the suffering people of Haiti.

As I stated before Pat Robertson has been known to make insensitive comments and tornadoes and earthquake victims are not his only targets.  During a portion of The 700 Club viewers send in questions for Pat Robertson to respond to. According to USA Today on one occasion Robertson was asked what advice a man should give to a friend who began seeing another woman after his wife started suffering from Alzheimer’s.

I know it sounds cruel, but if he’s going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again, but make sure she has custodial care and somebody looking after her,” Robertson said.

Terry Meeuwsen, Robertson’s co-host, asked him about couples’ marriage vows to take care of each other “for better or for worse” and “in sickness and in health.

If you respect that vow, you say ’til death do us part,'” Robertson said during the Tuesday broadcast. “This is a kind of death.”

So Mr. Pat Robertson are you now condoning tossing loved ones to the side just because a situation may be inconvenient and a bit uncomfortable? What happened to the love of a husband and wife? Better yet what happened to caring for those less fortunate?

As Christians I thought we were to care for the suffering. What happened to empathy for others, compassion and love? What happened?

Mr. Pat Robertson I simply ask you this. Is this the image that you want to exemplify as a Christian? Or as the popular phrase goes says, what would Jesus do?
