Ron Paul Flunks the R (Racism) Test for Good Reason…

(ThyBlackMan.com) Things got worse for GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul when his GOP presidential rival Newt Gingrich called Ron Paul on the carpet for purported racially inflammatory utterances he made in the 1990s in his officially approved newsletters, “Ron Paul’s Political Report” and “Ron Paul’s Freedom Report,” which brought in a considerable haul of cash. Ron Paul’s purported half-baked racial scribbles are by now well known. He bashed blacks as chronic welfare grifters, thugs, lousy parents, and said they are inherently racist toward whites. Ron Paul issued a terse denial that he authored or even read any of the racial slanders at the time but there is no evidence that he wrote a correction, or issued a clarification.

Ron Paul was back at it again in 2008. On his campaign website ronpaul2008.com, Ron Paul spotlighted race as “Issue: Racism.” “Government as an institution is particularly ill-suited to combat bigotry.” In short, the 1954 landmark Supreme Court’s Brown vs. Board of education school desegregation decision, the 1964 and 1968 Civil Rights Acts, the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and legions of court decisions and state laws that bar discrimination are worthless. Worse, said Ron Paul, they actually promoted bigotry by dividing Americans into race and class. None of this would have much mattered to Gingrich or much of the media if Paul hadn’t become a front runner in the Iowa Caucus.

His kind of sort of, let’s drop the subject retort to the press challenge to forcefully repudiate the past writings was the standard Ron  Paul dodge. The jury then and now is still out on whether those views truly represent his feelings or not. He loudly protests that he’s not a racist now because he has to if he is to have any credibility as a serious presidential contender. But protests and dodges, don’t change the reasons for Ron Paul’s seemingly out of the pale attacks. They likely did accurately reflect Ron Paul’s thoughts about racial matters, if not in the crude wording, as he protests wasn’t his wording, but in political sentiment. That’s the operative word, “sentiment” because this sentiment can easily morph into lethal and incendiary public policy advocacy.

Ron Paul’s boast that he would not have voted for the landmark 1964 civil rights bill that’s been the law of the land for nearly six decades is a textbook case in point.

Ron Paul’s rap against the bill is just as absurd and tortured as the rap that Southern Democrats and Northern GOP conservatives who bottled the bill up for more than a year in Congress used to pretty up their opposition to it. It violated property rights. Ron Paul, nearly six decades after their efforts failed in a interview reiterated, “…I’m for property rights and for state’s rights, and therefore I’m a racist, that’s just outlandish.”

The equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment wiped away the bogus claim that property rights trumps racial discrimination a century before Ron Paul and Jim Crow maintenance proponents used this ploy to torpedo the civil rights bill. But his anti-civil rights position linked directly to the old property rights canard fits neatly into the stock libertarian argument that the best thing that government can do is stay out of the affairs of private citizens and private business. That the root of America’s woes — bloated spending, soaring deficits, congressional gridlock, crippling energy dependence, massive tax disparities, the drug plague, and even America’s wars are the result of top heavy government interference and intrusion in the lives of Americans. Ron Paul also knows that spicing up the horribly distorted Jeffersonian principle of limited government with race has broad implications for scrapping regulations on environmental and civil liberties, and consumer protections, gutting regulations to prevent corporate abuses, and of course, slashing funding or eliminating government health services, education, welfare, and labor rules and laws. He has drilled home in his talks, lectures, and innumerable GOP presidential debates. Ron Paul’s seeming anti-establishment, anti-party, maverick position plays well to the legions of frustrated, disgusted, even enraged GOP rank and filers and purported libertarians that are desperate to have an alternative to the GOP establishment anointed presidential contenders.

Ron Paul can be magnanimous and apologize for the racist rants while deftly deflecting blame to someone else and then quickly lecturing the press to get over it and talk about the “substantive” issues. But the dredge up of the newsletters gave him what he wanted. He is a near household name and a viable force in the GOP. A slash and burn assault on government, even when its race tinged, doesn’t hurt Ron Paul one bit. It gets media and public attention, draws denunciations from his defenders as hitting below the belt, and quiet cheers from the multitudes that happen to agree with Ron Paul, his racial suspect views notwithstanding. In other words, Ron Paul flunks the R (Racism) test for good reason.

Watch that video and you’ll see truth like you’ve never seen it before. You”ll never be the same again !!!

Sorry to break this to you, but he is the only guy out there who gives a shit about minorities…THE ONLY ONE…And if you really care about it, do some video research on him, and quit reading these misguided, uninformed “news” articles…
Although I do suspect Im preaching to the choir…

So, Paul’s thirty years of public service in Congress, many books, and hundreds of interviews and TV appearances where he has made NO racist remarks counts for nothing? The one politician who’s public record matches consistently with his rhetoric counts for nothing? He’s declared both MLK and Rosa Parks as personal heroes because of their courage against the State. The one candidate who would do more for blacks and all minorities than any other candidate including Obama is to be attacked for 20 year old newsletters he says he didn’t write?

Paul would end the Federal war on drugs and pardon everyone serving time for a nonviolent drug offense. How many black families would be reunited? Why would a racist do such a thing? Wouldn’t a racist want to keep black people in cages? All the other candidates including Obama want to…

Ironic that Paul the alleged “racist” would do immense good for the black community while ThyBlackMan would attack him to keep their own brothers and sisters in Federal cages. Sad.

  9. John 575757 says:

Here we go with the race card again. Didn’t even read the article. Didn’t Obama go through this too with Jeremiah Wright. How many articles did you guys write about that? Get over it! This black man will be voting for Paul no matter what. Keep pulling this smear campaign all you want.

  10. freedom lvr says:

I’m going to go out on a limb here and ask for some feedback on my thoughts on racism and affirmative action.

Here are two experiences that led to my thoughts that affirmative action, quotas, etc. do more harm than good in the long term:

Growing up I heard the stories about my Irish ancestors being denied jobs with signs actually saying “Irish need not apply”, etc.

As a young woman I was told if I wanted to get into medical school I would actually have to have better grades than the male applicants.

I wondered how I would feel about myself today if my ancestors had been given jobs because employers had to meet quotas. I wondered how I would feel about my capabilities if I had gotten into medical school because I was a female and they were forced to admit a certain number of my gender.

Personally, I imagine I would have an underlying sense of not being equal or quite as good if special accomodations had to be made for me. Being told I had to do better than my competition made me work harder. Had I gone off complaining about the injustice of it I wouldn’t have had time for the work I needed to do.

I’m not saying the horrors of racism should go unchecked. Perhaps a more humanizing and effective way to level the playing field would have been to provide funds to sue the bloody hell out of any school, business or individual denying an opportunity to a qualified person based on race. Hold that guilty party up to public shame and ridicule, make them pay dearly and you send a stronger message.

Does bleeding heart liberal affirmative action send a mixed message? Does it empower people or put them down? In the long run has it been helpful or hurtful?

  11. Priya says:

I don’t get why people are so concerned about these newsletters and whether or not Ron Paul is racist or not. Let the man be who he is without criticizing him. Everybody is racist to a certain extent and everybody harbors their own judgment and stereotypes of people who are different from them. No one is free from their own prejudices no matter how ardently they claim not to have them. We grow and learn a lot through our own observation of the world and how the society around us works. If some patterns keep showing up (like a certain race being welfare grifters or a certain race having a high rate of teen pregnancy) are the people who observe these patterns wrong for observing and talking about what they observe?

We need a president to run our country. Even if he is racist, this imperfection of his will be checked and balanced through other legislative bodies. Don’t we live in a democracy where the people make the decisions and not just one man? So even if he is racist, I don’t think it should be much of a problem. The guy is sensible from the interviews I’ve seen. Also he’s not afraid to speak his mind. He’s very clear which is one thing I greatly respect.

It’s not like everybody up in DC is quite perfect anyways. There are loads of other politicians who reap of infidelity and sleep around with women. They still make it with their imperfection. I don’t see why some people slander Dr. Paul.

He’s trustworthy. It’s time a doctor should help run this country.

Random Opinion, I’m not familiar with Chip Tatum but I definitely know the background of “Freeway” Ricky Ross and our government’s deeds with this regard. As previously stated my brother is business savvy. He has the wherewithal to be a one percenter in any profession but he CHOSE the drug trade. Thanks for sharing.

keep bringing up the prison industrial complex-the war on drugs. Who are the winners and who are the losers ? government policies keep prices and profits high which benefit big time dealers, the cartels, attorneys etc. Guess who the number one losers are? One out of nine black males ages 20-34 are locked up either in local jails or in prison. One out of nine . There is only one person running for president who thinks this is a problem . This war on drugs is a cancer in our society.Help end it.Vote Ron Paul

  14. Leisa says:

While I don’t believe Paul is personally a racist, it’s obvious he supports the right to be one. This makes him more dangerous than the KKK. As he’s vetted more and more, his support will slip. The majority of Americans do care about other races and cultures. His way of thinking is flawed and unacceptable to most voters. And if it isn’t by some, they need to rethink their priorities and own inner tolerance, such as it may be.

    @Observer
I disagree; responsibility and personal choice are based on experience. If your experience is bad the resulting responsibility and choices are bad. Think about it. Our environment shapes us. Unfortunately television (programming) is the most prevalent environment shaping America as a whole today. We are being (programmed). I may be a little simplistic but, it seems quite obvious he has chosen the illegal pharmaceutical industry because it is more lucrative. Prices have a tendency to drop when contraband becomes legal. Once again I would ask you to research the links between our government and the illegal drug trade.
Make some time, check it out, it’s documented. Stay away from the kook sites. Do some real research. I’ll give one name to look into “Chip Tatum”. You do the rest. Ron Paul is aware of all of this. You start looking into this the pieces will fall into place as to why they are smearing him. Sorry about the late reply.

Random Opinion, Responsibility is a PERSONAL CHOICE regardless of one’s intellect, upbringing, outside influences, etc. unless one does not have the mental capacity to decipher right from wrong. I have a brother who is serving federal time for drug dealing. There is no doubt in my mind that he will continue this lifestyle upon release because even though he’s in a maximum security federal prison he has never stopped dealing drugs. Academically speaking, this brother runs circles around me and is business savy but chose the drug trade. This brother that I’m referring to also takes the position of PERSONAL CHOICE and I’ve never heard him cry RACISM about the War on drugs but I’ve witnessed him oppose the legalization so vehemently because he is cognizant of the destruction it causes.

What are you afraid of Mr. Hutchinson?
What other candidate do you hear tackle these issues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3EADdr-5AY&feature=related
You’re being disingenuous if you don’t include the fact that he is the only candidate on either side to want to stop this discrimination.

I tend to agree with this guy’s response: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=j1uc7x4a8SM

As to your claims about the Civil/Voting Rights Acts. You have to be honest that enforcement of the 14th Amendment, as Paul advocates, would end the need for such legislation. Or if they had simply not included regulations on private businesses, Paul supports everything else in those pieces of legislation.
And the State’s rights issue is not a canard, it is the 10th Amendment and needs just as much enforcement as the 14th.

The pro/con regulation conversation is part and parcel of the partisans in DC. For instance, you use it for fear to entice people to be wary of Paul. Either you don’t understand his position or you are agenda driven. He simply uses the Constitution as the law. Therefore many of the regulations you mentioned are only legal for the States to enact, which is fine by Paul. He encourages aggressive use of the courts stop environmental damage by polluters. He’s the strongest advocate of Civil Liberties, so I’m not sure why you think he won’t protect those. The beauty is that each state can have as many environmental, consumer protections, corporate regulations, and welfare programs. Even if you only look at from an Efficiency perspective, this is why welfare and healthcare programs are more successful in European countries…..they are the size of our states. When they are tried to be scaled up to our size or the USSR, they fail due to graft, corruption, and a simple disconnect from the people they are supposed to be helping. The Federal government is a poor filter for our money. Too much of it gets stuck in politician’s pockets. At least let us support those in need thru our more accountable and closer to home State governments.

  30. Random Opinion says:

    I agree Scotty good job!

  31. Robin says:

Whether Ron Paul is racist or not is irrelevant when it comes to blacks and how his current policies would benefit them. When it comes to the overall population, including blacks in the last few weeks it is ENTIRELY irrelevant in the face of the NDAA 2011-2012, which by the way, was called for by Obama in 2009.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbslm1h8xjI

Re: the NDAA, Rep. Justin Amash R (MI)wrote: “The key to subsection 1021(e) is its claim that sec. 1021 does not “affect existing law or authorities” relating to the detention of persons arrested on U.S. soil. If the President’s expansive view of his own power were in statute, that statement would be true. Instead, the section codifies the President’s view as if it had always existed, authorizing detention of “persons” regardless of citizenship or where they are arrested. It then disingenuously says the bill doesn’t change that view.

In fact, the Senate expressly rejected a provision that would have prevented the indefinite detention of American citizens. Sen. Feinstein offered another amendment to sec. 1021 that stated the section “does not include the authority to detain a citizen of the United States without trial until the end of hostilities.” That amendment was rejected 45-55. Sen. Feinstein’s other amendment, which does nothing to protect U.S. citizens, passed 99-1.”

Everybody needs to get up off the race thing and concentrate on what’s in the best interests of us all. Race don’t mean a damn when a free people loses their liberties to a duplicitous power hungry elitist who is a right wing conservative dressed in a democratic suit. America, you’ve been pimped. Wake up!

  32. Clay Miller says:

You are all crazy stupid Ron Paul supporters! We print green paper and exchange it for goods in China. Paul wants to stop it with his insane “golden standard”. He will turn lazy America into desert with this crap. He is going to withdraw all the troops from other countries. They will not be frightened by us, they will stop give up their interests for us anymore. No preferred rights to our exporters anymore. No more buying our Hollywood crap and porno. They will just steal it. Can you imagine what would happen? America will fail much sooner.

Thus, let him down by this racist crap and sleep rich and peaceful. Even if you are a hooker in Ghetto, you are still richer than most people in the World. And you want to stop this blessed life by electing Ron Paul? By killing that “brown” people, we keep us in this league. Otherwise, we are just lazy, fat, and proud by this. Thanks all the smart asses in the government, banks, big corporations, mass media, and military industry to keep us not hungry and entertained. Forget Ron Paul, he will end God blessed America as you know it.

  33. celebs4truth says:

    BTW, Scotty, incredibly well said!

  34. Scotty says:

I don’t care about the newsletters when race is not even an issue. With Obama and Gingrich agreeing with Obama to eviscerate the Bill of Rights, taking away our right to speedy and public trial, giving the military unprecedented power to detain us indefinitely and Negroes caught up on 20 year old newsletter that Lew Rockwell wrote? If the Bill of Rights is null & void then what does civil rights matter? Of course uppity Negroes do not think anything is wrong with over a million of our sisters and brothers in prison plantation chains. Yeah, they talked a good game when the book The New Jim Crow, Color Blindness in the Age og Obama came out. They talked about the evils of the racist Drug War but say nothing as Obama presses on with this racist war through the Justice Department and DEA. Yeah, they talked about Bush and his invading these countries for no good reason but for oil but sat silent while Obama & Nato bombed the most developed country in Africa back to the stone age. They say nothing while US troops attempt to get a foothold in Africa to continue its fake War on Terror. Please, give me a break. You have lost all credibility when you give Obama a pass on all I mentioned.

  35. shawn brown says:

Shame, shame, shame on you ThyBlackMan for writing this trashy LIBEL hit piece on the good Dr Ron Paul.

Dr Ron Paul was in Congress for over a quarter of century and gave numerous speeches and intervies in that time. PLEASE…if Dr Paul is such a racist as you claim, please post a link to some c-span and/or video footage showing Dr Paul speaking these horrible racist rants….. (crickets chirping)…yeah…I didn’t think so!

    Disgusting Journalism!

  36. Scott says:

@Naaman Shlomoo, I won’t be voting for anyone except Paul, no matter how all this plays out. I only came out to vote last year because Paul entered the race, without him in the running the Presidential race means nothing to me, everyone else represents “business as usual”.

@Naaman Shlomoo. It seems to be that he will switch to the libertarian ticket if this occurs. Which in my opinion, may be a strategic decision made by the corrupt GOP. Their goal obviously would be to continue the rampant corruption under both parties. So, if they can’t have (Goldman Sachs backed)Romney, just throw the election in favor of (Goldman Sachs Backed)Obama. Basically Siphon the votes away from the GOP condidate. In a smaller capacity that is what Santorum and Bachman are being utilized for. Goldman Sachs by the way, is one of the main contributors to the financial problems in our country, fraudulent derivitaves, credit default swaps etc.. and was rewarded by the corrupt admin with large bailouts from the generous taxpayers pockets.

  39. Scott says:

The jury most certainly is out. Ron Paul’s whole social and political life are testiment to the value he places on equality. This letter is one of thousands that went out and Paul made the mistake of not reading this one letter. All of his actions espouse equality, in fact, he’s the only one that is fighting to end the war on drugs because it has imprisoned poor minorities and a disproportionate number of blacks. He has put forth time and again that it is a war that is failing on all counts. He has changed his position on the death penalty too, because it too easily and wrongly puts to death the poor who can’t put up adequate defence, and they are again disproportionately black males.

Mr. Hutchinson, if you’re going to do a real (R)racism test on a cadidate, do it honestly and with some integrity, and do some homework for crying out loud.

  41. In 6 hours there has been 101 comments on this article the first at 4 O’clock PM. All supporters of Rep. Ron Paul. So what if he is a racist. He has to get nominated by republican voters in most states and it is apparent the GOP does not want him as president. When he fails to get the nomination who will his supporters support in the general election, Newt or Mitt?

  42. Random Opinion says:

@observer I respect your disagreement. It obviously comes from an individual that values responsibilty in his own life. I must however disect where resposibilty is derived from. I would assume you concede responsibilty comes from proper upbringing, surroundings, outside influences what ever they may be? The illegal pharmaceutical industry feeds on individuals with lower intellect. Therefore individuals without proper influeces (see above) are destined to become customers of such an industry. Is their lack of proper instruction of their own design? If not they bare limited, if not none of the responsibility for their actions with regards to illegal drugs. Now we may argue about some engrained character trait of knowledge of right from wrong. I am of the belief that when people have knowledge of that larger perspective of what they are embarking apon when engaging in such medicating. It will cease to exist. The ending of a war on drugs (which is quite literaly a war on people not drugs)is a good legitamate first step in addressing the problem. By the way, the same people that launder the drug money own the prisons. You may want to research that subject. I believe as a responsible man you will be interested in learning about it.I am interested in your thoughts on this.

The statement below is not directed at you (Observer) just a wake up call to anynoe who is reading.
