Garfield Hylton; A Tribute To The Sistas…

(ThyBlackMan.com) Twice. That is the number of times that I’ve dated outside of my race. Once when I was 10, the other time, I was 11. On those two separate occasions I dated outside of my race because well, they liked me and I liked them.
And that was fine.

99% of my dating experiences have been those women who are of African descent. Believe me when I tell you that, dating a black woman can be by far one of the most difficult things to do. And I say that because, they expect so much, all of the time, and they’re sometimes so uncompromising, that it can drive a man crazy.

Now with that said, I want to tell you something.

Get close.

Real close.

Whoa…back up a bit.

That’s better. Here it is.

I. Garfield Niquoy Hylton. Love. Black. Women.

How much do I love black women? If I had a wife (who will DEFINITELY be of African American descent) that had 7 kids and they were all girls, I’d be  the HAPPIEST (albeit most violent) man on the planet. For all the talk that black women are too strong, they’re amazingly docile when provided with a man who’s strong enough to lead the way.

For all the talk about black women being too difficult, they’re always willing to compromise when they feel that their thoughts and actions are important to the man they love. For all the talk about black women having bad attitudes, being uppity and stuck up, I think Phonte from Little Brother said it best when he said,

Not conceited, she just act stuck up, to meet not the fuck ups…”

Black women, to me, are the most beautiful women on the planet. It sometimes hurts me that they go through great pains to look like other races because they believe what the media says. Or they see a select group of sports stars who are all dating women that aren’t black. Or when they DO see a black woman, she’s fair complexioned and has straight hair.

If nobody else will tell you, I will, I love my sisters. Dark, light, brown, hazel eyed, dreadlocked, super permed, I don’t give a damn. (Although I do have “weave aversion” but I dig Micros heavy) Black women, you ARE beautiful just the way you are. What you fail to realize is that while you’re busy trying to look like other women, other women want to look like YOU.

People go crazy for Angelina Jolie’s lips. I know black women that have had those same lips forever, and they weren’t store bought. People get into a rage when they see Jennifer Lopez’s booty. Black women have had that same booty forever. And they didn’t need a surgeon. Whenever they see Pamela Anderson’s body they comment on how curvaceous it is. So what? They were girls I went to HIGH SCHOOL with that put Pamela Anderson to shame. And they didn’t need to starve themselves, it was natural to them.

I understand that sometimes you see athletes with women from other races and you ask yourself “why doesn’t he want me?” And while I don’t have an answer for that, I will say this; you should NOT point at yourself because a man chooses to date outside of his race. He is but ONE man in a sea of many. Do not let his example give you the impression that black men don’t love and cherish black women, because we do. We just sometimes wish YOU loved yourself more.

So for all my beautiful single, lovely black women with your college degrees, your intelligence, your trendsetting styles, those beautiful lips, wide hips, curvaceous legs, honey brown or dark chocolate skin, with hazel, brown or grey eyes, with swinging dreadlocks, a sweet short cut, long flowing hair, or a bad ass perm, don’t feel bad at all. If you feel nobody else loves you, just read this blog post and know that I, Garfield Niquoy Hylton, do.

Peace.

P.S. And one more thing.

When you take care of yourself, while other races tend to whither and dry out, you get MORE beautiful. As time ages you, you become a more precious version of yourself. And that is what I love the most. Black women are like a fine piece of art, as time goes by, the value appreciates, not depreciates.

  2. This is a beautiful tribute that absolutely warms my heart. Black women often receive very harsh criticism in the media and I appreciate this article because it highlights the beauty, diversity, grace, and sensitivity of black women. Thank you.
