Bank Error Not In My Favor – Why You Must Watch Your Money Like A Hawk…

(ThyBlackMan.com) It seems everyone is out to get your money these days.

Credit card companies and banks continually think of new sneaky fees. Supermarket scanners cheat us out of discounts. Scams and con artists lurk everywhere.

That’s why I watch my money like a hawk.

I got real serious about it after someone nearly a thousand miles away charged $200 in gas to my credit card – the very card sitting in my wallet at  the time. How they got the credit card number I’ll never know, and what kind of gas guzzling monster they must of been driving I can only imagine.

A quick call to my credit card company and the charge was reversed – but ever since, I check my online bank accounts and credit cards several times a week.

That’s why I flipped out when I noticed the $200 taken from my bank account. You better believe I was at my local branch office bright and early the next day.

Waiting for the customer service agent to return from her investigation I imagined how someone had stolen $200 from my account.

  • Had the thief silently watched me as I entered my password at an ATM.
  • Had I visited an ATM that had secretly been fitted with an ATM card skimmer?
  • Had some hacker gained access to the bank’s accounts?

Imagine my surprise when the customer service rep came back and told me it had been a simple teller error. Apparently, a teller had accidentally entered my account number when helping another customer withdraw $200 from their account.

Imagine that. In this age of technology, not only do we have to watch out for thieves, scammers and hackers, but we also have to worry about losing money due to simple human error as well.

Take home lesson: Fraud happens to people just like you and me everyday. So too apparently does human error.

For that reason alone we must watch our money. If we don’t nobody else will. Check your credit card accounts and bank accounts a few times a week, if not daily.

Have you ever lost money due to fraud or human error? Tell us about it.
