How to Become A Good Father…

(ThyBlackMan.com) Being a father is the ultimate experience as a man. It is easy for any man to sleep with a woman. It is not easy for some men to stay and take care of the responsibilities that come with having a relationship. I think it is about time men stepped up to the plate and become fathers to their children.

1. YOU ARE THE PROTECTOR OF YOUR CHILD

Your child has to feel safe around you. He/she has to know that Daddy will put his life on the line to protect him/her. This protects your child from other encroachments on their lives.

2. YOU ARE THE LEADER OF THE HOUSE

Provide leadership in your house by the example you give. While it is important to let your child know your imperfections, you have to practise  what you preach.

3. YOU ARE THE GUIDE TO YOUR CHILDREN

It is important to ensure that your children do not repeat the mistakes you made with your life. Provide that guiding hand and voice that encourages them to become better.

4. YOU MUST BE INNOVATIVE WITH YOUR CHILDREN

Your children (or child) are unique individuals. You have to come to their level in order to gain respect and connection. You do not achieve anything by being a brute.

5. YOU MUST SPEND TIME WITH YOUR CHILDREN

Your kids will remember the values you taught them more than the valuables you gave them. Making time for them improves the image they have of you and themselves.

6. YOU MUST PROVIDE FOR THEIR NEEDS

You are the man of the house. Go get the bacon. You cannot put it all on the woman. The bottom line is this: don’t give birth to kids you cannot cater for. Your child is your responsibility, period.

7. YOU MUST BE THERE FOR THEM, NO MATTER WHAT

There are too many runaway fathers in our society. Apart from the reasons of death, disease and detention, there is no excuse for fatherless children. It is a gross misrepresentation of manhood when that occurs. A man is supposed to take care of his business.

    Excellent article!

This is a great article, yet there is one thing that needed to be stated from a man’s point of view that is missing. Men need to verify what the quality of women they are sleeping with to ensure they are compatible to work together in the event they do concieve, because being selective is a major part of the success, also.
